Happy Planet Index

O Happy Planet Index (HPI) ou Índice do Planeta Feliz mede a capacidade que cada país tem para proporcionar um bem-estar sustentável aos seus cidadãos. Foi introduzido pela New Economics Foundation, uma organização não governamental ecológica britânica em Julho de 2006. A lista de 2009 tem em conta 143 países.

Sobre o índice

O Happy Planet Index não é uma forma de quantificar quais os países mais felizes do mundo. É antes uma forma de medir a eficiência com que uma nação converte os seus recursos naturais em vidas longas e felizes para os seus cidadãos.

Cada valor associado a um país tem em conta o nível de satisfação subjectivo, esperança média de vida e a pegada ecológica per capita.

Dos países lusófonos, na lista de 2006, o melhor colocado era São Tomé e Príncipe, na 22ª posição, e o pior colocado era a Angola, em 155º lugar. Já na lista de 2009, o melhor colocado é o Brasil, em 9º lugar, e o pior colocado é Moçambique, na 133º lugar. Vale lembrar que na lista de 2009, Cabo Verde, Timor-Leste, Guiné-Bissau e São Tomé e Príncipe não foram avaliados.
