Etymology
From Old Anatolian Turkish شو (şu), from شل (şol) (by analogy of bu (“this”)), from earlier [script needed] (uş ol), equivalent to uş (“lo!”) + o (“she, he, it, that”). Compare şimdi (“now”), işte (“lo!”). Cognate with Kazakh сол (sol).
