From Byzantine Greek πουκάμισον (poukámison), from earlier ὑποκάμισον (hupokámison), from ὑπο- (hupo-) + καμίσιον (kamísion), the latter part from Medieval Latin or Late Latin camisia (“shirt”), of Gaulish and perhaps ultimately Germanic origin.
