сӑмса

Chuvash

Etymology

Borrowed from Middle Mongol ᠰᠠᠮᠰᠠ (samsa, nasal septum). Jegorov and Fedotov also compare Common Turkic *tumšuk (nose, beak), however this is dubious for phonetic reasons. EDAL reconstructs Proto-Turkic *sum-[1], however such a word is not attested in any other Turkic language.
