From Classical Persian حُکُومَت (hukūmat /hukūmat/, “government”), from Arabic حُكُومَةٌ f (ḥukūmatun, “government”).
Cognate with Kazakh үкімет (ükımet), Kyrgyz өкмөт (ökmöt), Uzbek hukumat, Turkish hükûmet (“government”), etc.
