Old Armenian
ազոխ
Etymology
Uncertain. Compare Persian ازخ (azox, “rotten and empty nut”), which does not fit semantically. Perhaps the Iranian word had a broader meaning earlier, potentially reflected in Arabic سُحّ (suḥḥ, “dates of a dry kind which dissolve well in the mouth”), in which case ազոխ (azox) is an Iranian borrowing.[1]
Martirosyan connects with Abkhaz а-ӡахәа́ (a-dzaxʷá, “grapevine”).[2]
