ննջեմ

Alternative forms

  • ննջեամ (nnǰeam)

Etymology

Uncertain.[1][2][3] Klingenschmitt considers ննջեմ (nnǰem) an onomatopoeic formation (compare Italian ninnare).[4] Kölligan derives from Proto-Armenian *ni-nuǰ-e-, from pre-Armenian *ni-nudʰ-ye-, a derivative of the Proto-Indo-European *(s)newdʰ- root supposedly underlying Ancient Greek νυστάζω (nustázō) and Lithuanian snū́sti.[5]
