Old Armenian
Etymology
From սուղ (suł, “short”) + -ոց (-ocʿ, “tool suffix”), i.e. "shortening tool".[1][2] The marine animal sense encountered only in the Physiologus is a semantic loan from Ancient Greek πρίων (príōn).
