أَفْحَمَ • (ʔafḥama) IV, non-past يُفْحِمُ‎ (yufḥimu)

  1. to silence (someone) with argument, to render (someone) unable to respond
    • 1865 CE, Bible (SVD), Acts of the Apostles, 18:28:
      لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ بِٱشْتِدَادٍ يُفْحِمُ الْيَهُودَ جَهْرًا، مُبَيِّنًا بِالْكُتُبِ أَنَّ يَسُوعَ هُوَ الْمَسِيحُ.
      liʔannahu kāna bištidādin yufḥimu al-yahūda jahran, mubayyinan bi-l-kutubi ʔanna yasūʕa huwa l-masīḥu.
      For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
