اِقْتَبَسَ • (iqtabasa) VIII, non-past يَقْتَبِسُ‎‎ (yaqtabisu)

  1. to quote, acquire, to obtain, to derive, to take from (especially knowledge)
    • 7th century CE, Sunan Abī Dāwud, 30:2:
      ‏مَن ٱقْتَبَسَ عِلْمًا مِن ٱلنُّجُومِ ٱقْتَبَسَ شُعْبَةً مِنَ السِّحْرِ زَادَ مَا زَادَ.‎‎
      man qtabasa ʕilman min n-nujūmi qtabasa šuʕbatan mina s-siḥri zāda mā zāda.
      He who acquires knowledge of the stars acquires a branch of magic as long as he does so.
