मेण्ढ्र

Etymology

Along with the related भेड्र (bheḍra, ram), a foreign borrowing, probably Munda. However, it is not certain whether the Austroasiatic Munda tribes had any knowledge of sheep; and besides, no Munda or Mon-Khmer cognates are attested at all. Thus, this is a problematic hypothesis, and it may instead be from a non-Munda non-Dravidian aboriginal substrate of India.
