Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *síẓḍati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *síždati, from Proto-Indo-European *sí-sd-e-ti, from *sed- (“to sit”).[1] Cognate with Latin sīdō, Old Church Slavonic сѣдѣти (sěděti), Old English sittan (whence English sit).
