Etymology

Inherited from Old Gujarati चौमासउं (caumāsaüṃ), from Sanskrit चतुर्मास (caturmāsa), a compound of चतुर् (catur) +‎ मास (māsa); literally, “four months” as the monsoon season lasts from June through September in India. Doublet of ચતુર્માસ (caturmās). Cognate with Sindhi چَوْماسو‎ / चौमासो (caumāso).
