Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀸𑀭𑁂𑀯𑀬 (pārevaya), from Sanskrit पारावत (pārāvata, “remote, distant”), a compound of परा (parā, “distant”) + -वत् (-vat). Doublet of પારાવત (pārāvat). Cognate with Assamese পাৰ (par), Bengali পায়রা (paẏora), Kamta পাৰো (parü), Marathi पारवा (pārvā), Nepali परेवा (parewā), Odia ପାରା (para).
