Etymology
From Bremer (“of Bremen”) + Hafen (“harbour”). The Low German spelling Haven was already archaic when the harbour was opened around 1830. It was probably chosen by analogy with Cuxhaven. Compare Wilhelmshaven (founded in 1869).
