Etymology
From Middle High German rëgenboge, from Old High German reginbogo, from Proto-West Germanic *regnabogō. Equivalent to Regen (“rain”) + Bogen (“bow, arch, arc”). Compare Dutch regenboog, English rainbow, Yiddish רעגנבויגן (regnboygn), Danish regnbue, Icelandic regnbogi.
