albargă

Polabian

Etymology

Borrowed from Middle Low German herberge, from Old Saxon heriberga, from Proto-West Germanic *harjabergu + Polabian (inflectional ending). [l] instead of expected [r] is an effect of dissimilation, possibly under influence of Italian albergo, which was also known in Germany.

Noun
