From Ottoman Turkish دینوزور (dinozor), from French dinosaure, from English dinosaur, from Ancient Greek δεινός (deinós, terrible, awesome, mighty, fearfully great) + σαῦρος (saûros, lizard, reptile). Coined by paleontologist Richard Owen in 1841/1842.
