From Old Irish gabor (“goat, horse”), from Proto-Celtic *gabros (“he-goat”), from Proto-Indo-European *kápros (“male hooved animal”). Cognate with Latin caper (“goat”) and Ancient Greek κάπρος (kápros, “wild boar”).
