Via other European languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin idea (“a (Platonic) idea; archetype”), from Ancient Greek ἰδέα (idéa, “notion, pattern”), from εἴδω (eídō, “I see”).

   ideja par Rūdolfa Blaumaņa pieminekļa celšanu radās jau 1922 gadā ― the idea of building a monument to Rūdolfs Blaumanis appeared already in 1922

4. idea (the main thought, topic, theme, question, e.g. in a work of art)

   daiļdarba ideja ― the idea of a work of fiction
