Etymology
From Proto-Polynesian *mona (compare with Hawaiian mona and momona (“fat, soft, sweet”), Tahitian momona and monamona (“sweet, tasty, dessert”)),[1] from Proto-Oceanic *moñak, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *məñak (compare with Malay minyak (“oil”)).[2]
