Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *süntüdäk, possibly ultimately through Proto-Iranian [Term?] from Proto-Indo-European *ǵenh₁- (to beget). Cognates include Finnish syntyä and possibly Hungarian ellik (to calve, to kid).
