Etymology

From Common Turkic *yakšï, derivation of Proto-Turkic *yak- (to draw near; to fit, to be well-suited). Cognate with Turkmen ýagşy, Lua error in Module:utilities at line 142: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'h' (a nil value), Crimean Tatar yahşı, Tatar яхшы (yaxşı), Kyrgyz жакшы (jakşı), Kazakh жақсы (jaqsy), Uzbek yaxshi, Uyghur ياخشى (yaxshi), dialectal Turkish yakşı.
