Blechnaceae

Blechnaceae é uma família constituída por 24 géneros[1] e 265 espécies de fetos, com uma distribuição cosmopolita. A família foi incluída no taxon Eupolypods II, um clade da ordem Polypodiales,[2] da classe Polypodiopsida[3]. A maioria das espécies são terrestres, mas algumas, como as pertencentes ao género Stenochlaena, são trepadeiras ou epífitas. Uma característica distintiva desta família é a coloração avermelhada das frondes juvenis durante a fase de abertura.

A família Blechnaceae inclui 24 géneros, dependendo do sistema de classificação adoptado. O género Blechnum é provavelmente parafilético, com as espécies do género Doodia (e possivelmente outras) incluídas no seu âmbito[2]. Os resultados obtidos pelos métodos da filogenia molecular indicam que será possível que a família Blechnaceae possa conter apenas dois géneros monofiléticos[1].
