Etymology

First attested in 1835. From ó (“old, ancient”) +‎ -don (nominal-forming suffix). The ending was taken from tulajdon, erroneously thought of as a suffix, perhaps applied with the purpose of comparison. Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.[1][2][3]
