Etymology
From अर्ण (arṇa, “being in motion; restless; wave”), from the root ऋ (ṛ, “to rise, move, shake”); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃er- (“to move, stir, rise”). Doublet of अर्णस् (arṇas, “river, stream, flood”), इयर्ति (iyarti), ऋणोति (ṛṇoti). Cognate with English run, origin, orient and Ancient Greek ἔρνος (érnos), ὄρνῡμῐ (órnūmi).
