From Proto-Philippine *ka-du-duha, from ka- + *duha (two, fossilized form of dalawa), with reduplication of the first syllable of the root, and /d/ sound-shifted to /l/. Compare Ilocano kararua, Pangasinan kamarerua, Dupaningan Agta kaliduwa, Ibanag ikakarwa, Kapampangan kaladdua, Tagbanwa kiyarulwa, Mansaka kallowa, and Central Dusun koduduo.
