katay
Tagalog
Etymology
Possibly related to Tagalog matay, patay, bitay, or from Hokkien 共伊刣 (kā i thâi, literally “have it/him/her slaughtered”) according to Chan-Yap (1980).[1][2] See more at Hokkien 刣 (thâi) where the second element may simply be a substrate cognate word comparable to Proto-Austronesian *pa-aCay (“to kill”) and Proto-Austronesian *ma-aCay (“to die”).
