Etymology
From Middle High German zīdich, northern variant of zītec, from Old High German zītīg. Equivalent to Zäit (“time”) + -eg. Doublet of zäiteg (“timely”), which was adapted to the noun. Further cognate with German zeitig, Dutch tijdig, English tidy.
